Deep Tissue Massage

Description

Deep tissue massage is a highly therapeutic technique designed to reach the inner, sub-layer musculature and the connective tissues (fascia) that surround your muscles.

Unlike Thai massage, which focuses on stretching and energy flow, deep tissue massage is highly focused on targeted pressure and physical muscle manipulation. Its defining characteristics include:

  • Intense, Focused Pressure: The therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes and deep finger, knuckle, or elbow pressure to physically break down muscle “knots” (adhesions) and scar tissue.

  • Table and Oils: You undress to your comfort level, lie on a traditional padded massage table, and are draped with a sheet. The therapist uses oil or lotion to glide smoothly over the skin while applying heavy pressure.

  • Targeted Relief: Rather than a full-body experience, a session often focuses intently on a specific problem area, such as a chronically stiff neck, a tight lower back, or sore shoulders from repetitive strain.

The primary goal is pain relief, injury rehabilitation, and restoring normal movement. Because the pressure is so intense, it is normal to experience some mild discomfort during the massage and a bit of soreness for a day or two afterward.
